JumpSTART Physics is a summer school course to prepare students to confidently undertake the PHSI 191 Biological Physics course.
The purpose of this course is to provide students with the background knowledge and study skills necessary to confidently undertake the PHSI 191 Biological Physics course at Otago.
It is designed for students whose training in high school Physics and Mathematics is incomplete, having not taken Year 12 (NCEA Level 2) Physics. Students undertaking this course will still need to meet the University's admission and entrance criteria in order to proceed to full credit study.
The course will take place on the ground floor, Physics Department, Science lll Building and is intensive and interactive, and runs in the 3 weeks from Monday 30th January to Friday 17th February 2012.
The textbook used for the course is Introduction to Biological Physics for the Health and Life Sciences by Franklin et al (Wiley). This is the required text for this course and for PHSI 191. The textbook may be purchased from the University Bookshop.
Class Limit: Maximum 60
Restrictions:
Students who have achieved 14 credits and higher in NCEA Level 2 Physics or General Science, or a pass in Sixth Form Certificate Physics or Science, will not be accepted except with the approval of the Head of Department.
Prerequisites:
There are no prerequisites for this course, however, general science and Mathematics at NCEA Level 1 or above would be an advantage.
