Masters of Science (MSc) and Postgraduate Diploma of Science (PGDipSci) in Energy Studies
Students who have completed a BSc in Energy Studies can take 400-level papers and undertake project work or a thesis leading to a PGDipSci or MSc in Energy Studies. Depending on academic background, it also is possible for students who have obtained qualifications at other tertiary institutions to undertake postgraduate degrees in Energy Studies at Otago. In such cases, the exact course structure can be negotiated.
Postgraduate projects can be industry-based, experimental or theoretical so the potential range of topics is unlimited. As well as providing a deeper understanding of the chosen topic area, an MSc or PGDipSci project provides an opportunity for students to learn valuable professional skills such as how to research, critical analysis of information, report writing, time management and self motivational skills. Throughout the course of their project, students obtain expert guidance and assistance from their supervisor.
Many of our current postgraduate students are receiving scholarships or have part-time employment in industry to undertake their research. PleaseĀ contact us to find out more. Also you can visit the research to see the wide variety of projects postgraduate students have undertaken in the past.
Course regulations for a PGDipSci or MSc are available on the University of Otago website.
